Bad precedent in international relations

Kourosh Ahmadi

Another Iranian nuclear scientist was criminally assassinated by the operatives, who undoubtedly are hired and directed by the Israeli intelligence to carry out reckless operations on a foreign soil. As registered in a now well-known book, based on the Israeli admissions, the Israeli officials are responsible for more than 2700 state-sponsored criminal acts that claimed the lives of a range of individuals from a spiritual leader, elderly, wheelchair-bound Sheik Yassin, to numerous other Iranian nuclear scientists and university professors.
These assassinations run manifestly counter to the basic norms and principles of international law. Conducting extraterritorial assassinations and terrorist acts on foreign soils and extra-judicial killings not only contravene international human rights of the gun-downed individuals but also endanger international peace and security. These types of crime are conducive to destabilising regions and undermining the foundations upon which states could interact and try to peacefully sort out their differences. Just imagine that other States too react to or imitate the same tactics and resort to the same criminal acts to have their ways and further their goals, what kind of world we will end up having on our hands?
Undoubtedly, those who ordered the assassination should have felt buttressed by the outgoing US administration on the basis of the unacceptable pressures it has brought to bear on Iran in the past two years and the vague threats of military actions it is currently implying. Contrary to the previous US administration that condemned the assassinations of the Iranian nuclear in the past, it is very unfortunate that the outgoing US President retweeted recklessly and in an approving way the tweet of an Israeli journalist, boasting about the murder.
The Iranian government is right to expect the wide condemnation of the latest assassination and the resolute action by international organisations, especially the UN Security Council, as these types of act of terror endanger international peace and security.
